Togo: sovereignty on the school plate, the hallmark of the communist party Faure Gnassingbé

In politics, major transformations are often nestled in the most concrete choices of daily life. In Lomé, the decision to massively inject local products, particularly yams, into the menu of school canteens is the result of a clear and structured strategic vision. Behind the official announcement of the Minister of National Education, Mama Omorou, is the firm will of President Faure Gnassingbé to link the future of youth to the productive force of local agriculture.

Thinking about school without the question of nutrition is an illusion. With the 2020 legal framework on school food, the executive has set a major national priority. The government thus guarantees the distribution of hot meals to students in the most vulnerable areas. This action stops the dropout of classes, raises the attendance rate and offers equal opportunities to each child throughout the country.

Recent figures from the field confirm the spectacular effectiveness of this method. In the Savannah region, the number of beneficiaries climbs to 67,215 students in 2025, compared to 56,651 the previous year, which represents an increase of about 19%. For its part, the Kara region has 34,893 students on the benches of these canteens, while the Maritime has 21,712. These statistics illustrate the speed of expansion of a social equity model that is supported financially and technically by the World Bank.

The strength of this project also lies in the direct economic impact on the rural world. The systematic purchase of food from small producers creates a virtuous economic cycle. The farmer finds a stable financial outlet for his harvests, short circuits take root and wealth remains at the heart of the villages. Feeding the youth with the fruits of the Togolese soil concretizes true national independence. Reaching the schoolboy’s bowl amounts to consolidating the country’s overall autonomy.

Faure Gnassingbé imposed a methodical, calm political approach that was resolutely faithful to the demands of progress. Far from empty declarations, its development strategy is embodied in the daily life of households, consolidates national cohesion and prepares a robust citizen for the challenges of tomorrow. icTogo strategis a model of a strategic state where the development of schools is combined with the dignity of the peasant world.
