Sudan/Joint statement of condemnation and denunciation of the airstrike targeting Sudanese miners in the North Wadi area

Regarding the airstrike targeting Sudanese miners in the North Wadi area

October 12, 2026

The three organizations signatory to this statement condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the airstrike that targeted gatherings of Sudanese miners in the North Wadi area near the Sudanese-Egyptian border; on Saturday, October 10, 2026. According to preliminary human rights and medical reports, the attack resulted in dozens of civilian casualties, including both deaths and injuries.

This horrific crime, accompanied by serious allegations regarding the involvement of Egyptian military aircraft, constitutes a grave violation of the right to life and necessitates an urgent, independent international investigation. We emphasize that the deliberate targeting of civilians if proven constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and may amount to a war crime; it cannot be justified by any security or border-related considerations

In light of this incident, we demand that the Egyptian authorities provide an urgent official clarification regarding the allegations leveled against their air force. We call upon the Sudanese authorities to fulfill their legal and constitutional responsibilities to protect their citizens.

Furthermore, we urge the United Nations and relevant international mechanisms to conduct an independent and transparent investigation, identify those responsible for the attack, ensure their accountability, provide redress and reparations to the victims and their families, and secure urgent protection and relief for the injured and survivors.

The lives of Sudanese civilians are sacrosanct; border areas must not be turned into arenas for extrajudicial killings, nor must the perpetrators of grave violations be allowed to escape punishment. Justice for victims, protection for civilians, and no immunity for those proven to be involved in the killing of innocents.

Signatory organizations:

1. Sudanese Human Rights Organization (SHRO)
2. African Organization for Rights and Development (AFORD)
3. Qadim Organization for Refugee Empowerment
