EU parliament pushes for the muslim brotherhood’s inclusion on the terrorist organizations list

Parliament on Thursday adopted a resolution calling for a unified and tougher European strategy to counter networks affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and other groups linked to political Islam operating within European institutions and societies.

A total of 381 members of the European Parliament voted in favor of the resolution, which calls for considering the designation of the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates as terrorist organizations, cutting off their sources of funding, ending cooperation with them, and preventing their further penetration of European Union institutions and the institutions of member states.

The resolution calls for an assessment of whether entities and individuals linked to the Muslim Brotherhood should be added to the European Union’s terrorism list, alongside measures addressing financing and greater coordination among EU member states to counter activities associated with the organization’s networks.

The European Parliament statement emphasized that the new resolution seeks to cut off funding, prevent cooperation, and halt what it described as the infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood into European institutions and those of EU member states.

It also stated that the resolution aims to establish unified policies to confront networks associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and address the threat posed by ideological and political extremism. The resolution comes as part of an official session on the agenda of the Parliament’s current sitting in Strasbourg, where lawmakers on Thursday are considering draft resolutions containing proposals concerning financing, institutional relations, and the possible inclusion of the Muslim Brotherhood on the European terrorism list.

The broader objective is to develop coordinated European policies to counter the organization’s networks and address the risks associated with ideological and political extremism. NEW SUDAN NEWS AGENCY
