Beyond alliance and rebellion: Toward a new Sudanese state

This is the very system we struggled against for twenty years, a system with which some later allied themselves under the pretext of preserving the state. Yet today, some of those very allies are threatening to rebel against it. The political irony is stark: how can those who waged a twenty-year war against this system enduring immense sacrifice in the process return to alliance with it, justifying that alliance as a defense of the state, only to threaten rebellion against it once more?

We are not opposed to the Sudanese state, the peoples of Sudan, or any part of the country. Our stance is directed against a political and security apparatus that has exploited state institutions to divide the Sudanese people and fuel wars, as well as tribal and racial tensions.

We have maintained from the outset that the problem runs deeper than mere individuals or governments. This structure has obstructed the construction of a state based on equality, weakened state institutions, and entrenched a pattern where the proliferation of forces and militias becomes a recurring feature of conflict management.

Consequently, realigning with this system does not resolve the root cause of the crisis; rather, it perpetuates it. The sacrifices of twenty years lose all meaning if they culminate in a return to the very same system.

We call upon everyone not necessarily through the « Founding Sudan Alliance » to work toward transcending totalitarian regimes and building a new state: a state that embraces all Sudanese people, where everyone enjoys equal rights and obligations, and which is governed by institutions and the rule of law, rather than by arms or political and tribal affiliations.

This is the essence of our struggle: a homeland that accommodates everyone, not one monopolized by any single party.
