In a continent too often shaken by political crises with dramatic consequences, the international NGO ANA « Aimers Notre Afrique » is a key player in mediation and stability. Founded in 2011 in Côte d’Ivoire, this pan-African organization works behind the scenes to promote dialogue, tolerance and peace between African political actors.
The NGO ANA defines itself as a « diplomatic mission aimed at supporting not only the African people but also African governments in the search for peace and development ». Endowed with diplomatic immunity for all its members, it intervenes discreetly but effectively intense political contexts, with a strong conviction: to encourage Africans to talk to each other, to favor dialogue rather than confrontation.
Its philosophy is based on four pillars: tolerance, dialogue, forgiveness and peace. The aim is to revive solidarity among the continent’s inhabitants while helping them to understand the elements that are sources of discord, even war, in their countries, cities or villages.
In Senegal, where political actors have sometimes been tempted to break away, the NGO ANA has played a decisive role in promoting consultation and preserving stability. Between 2018 and 2023, the country went through several major institutional crises.
In this explosive context, the NGO ANA has been working behind the scenes to keep the channel of dialogue open between the protagonists. His ability to intervene discreetly, without seeking media attention, allowed him to gain the trust of the different camps and to facilitate rapprochements that avoided major destabilization in Senegal.
What distinguishes the NGO ANA from other actors of peace in Africa is its resolutely pan-African roots. Unlike Western mediators or international organizations that are perceived as external, ANA embodies the idea that Africans are best placed to resolve their own conflicts. Its approach is based on cultural proximity, an understanding of local realities and a legitimacy that only continental actors can claim.
The organization also intervenes in the electoral field, helping the population to understand the merits of an election and the preponderant role of the citizen in a democratic process. It also contributes, where possible, to the rehabilitation of infrastructure in conflict-affected areas.
In a continent where political crises are multiplying, the work of the NGO ANA deserves to be commended. Without noise, without fanfare, this organization helps to preserve the stability of fragile countries and to prevent political tensions from escalating into violent confrontations. Its action in Senegal perfectly illustrates its vocation: to ensure that Africans always favor dialogue over confrontation, consultation over rupture. Africa needs more actors like ANA: discreet, determined and resolutely pan-African.
